I'm not sure if this is a mac os x issue, or mac book core 2 duo issue. but I just got this laptop two days ago, and I see that the brightness of the screen changes by itself. it goes a couple notches up and down from time to time. and it's always connected to the power so it's not that if dims the screen for battery performance. is this a known problem?

It's a "feature". When not in use, the display will dim a bit to save energy. If you don't like it, you can turn it off the setting in the "Energy Saver" pane in the "Options" tab.
You may have to change the settings for "Power Adapter" and "Battery" to completely turn it off.
Or is something else happening?
