Can you install OSX on RAID 5

Hi,
I'm coming from the PC world and don't know if the mac OSX 10.5 can be installed on a partitioned RAID 5.

We have ordered the Xserve 2.8GHz with 3 x 1TB SATA drives. On a Windows server I would put the OS on a mirrored drive but in the above configuration there are no other drives, just the 3x 1TB drives.

Can I partition the RAID5 (made with the 3 drives) to install the OS and store data as well ?

Appreciate any info

Yes, if you also have an XServe RAID card... otherwise, you're limited to the software RAID 0/1 functionality of Mac OS X Server.

Yeah, as it was said, you're best bet is to have the Hardware RAID Card. The Apple branded card supports booting, as opposed to others. If not, I'd go with what you are used to. Do a RAID 1 on the first two drives for a Mirror Boot and then use the third drive to replicate your files to as "backup".

thanks for the responses.

Yes we have ordered the hardware Raid card so hoping to setup a RAID5 using the 3x 1TB drives. Then dividing that up for OS and Data.

cheers
