CD-RW or CD-R?

I have recently inserted a CD-RW disc into my Superdrive (iMac G4 800MHz running OS 10.1.5) and it comes up on my desk top as a CD-R. I decided to burn overlooking this, but when i wanted to write on the disc again, it wouldn't let me. Why isnt is recognising the disc properly?
Any comments would be appreciated.

How did you format the disc? With Finder? Have you bought any discs of the same type? Do they do the same thing?

If I recall right, a CD-RW appears like a CD-R (at least for your finder). So, this is normal. The only difference to CD-Rs is, that you can delete the toc and empty the CD-RW again. I would suggest you to do this first and try again writing on the disc. Use Disk Utility for this
