So i finally got around to updating to OS X 10.4.3,. I had finished downloading the update, and restarted. My powerbook crashed during the restart, and when i rebooted all i can get is the grey screen. I've tried disc utility and booting from a disk, but to no avail. Anyone have any help/ideas? I'm panicing here. . .

'... I had finished downloading the update, and restarted.' - It appears you used MacOS X'es 'Apple, Software Update...' menu item to have Apple install 'MacOS X Update 10.4.3' onto your PowerBook.

The better (and safer) way - download 'MacOS X Update 10.4.3 Combo', and manually install 10.4.3. Also, archive the 'MacOS X Update 10.4.3 Combo' file (109 MB in size) for future MacOS X 10.4 re-installations and updating.

'Anyone have any help/ideas?', Try booting from the MacOS X 10.4 installation disc; select the 'Installer, Open Disk Utility...' menu item, do a 'Repair Disk' (2 or more times) and 'Repair Disk Permissions' (2 or more times) on the PowerBooks boot drive; and, reboot.

If the above suggestion fails, ... as per the 'Windoze' way that Apple has since adapted (since the introduction of MacOS X) ... reinstall MacOS X 10.4 ('Tiger'), then download and install 'MacOS X Update 10.4.3 Combo'.
