Creative NOMAD MuVo format issue

I can write from Mac OS X to my Creative NOMAD MuVo MP3 player provided I format it via my PC. It seems to format with 12bit DOS. Can anyone shed any light on how to format this device directly from Mac OS X? I've tried the disk utility but I think it uses DOS 16bit and the player just hangs when I try to listen to it. Thanks for any help, Stephen
