Desktop folder at root level?

I've got what seems to be an extra folder named Desktop at the root level of my startup HD on my Tibook. Not to be confused with the OS9 Desktop alias.

On another machine on which I just re-installed 10.2.6, there is no such folder.

I've had the Tibook since Dec., and the folder is dated Jan. 25.

Can I delete it, or is it used somewhere?

Thanks!

Ahh, call me crazy, but I do too... It appeared there today, I think.

I've never had os9 on this machine, and the folder is empty, anyone else have this?

Is this something that came with 10.2.6?

Since it doesn't exist on my macs that are on 10.2.5 and lower... hmmm... strange.

That IS the OS 9 Desktop folder. Anything that appears on your desktop in OS 9 should be IN that folder. if you don't use OS 9 or classic, I suppose you can trash it, eh?

No, the Desktop folder is a folder with 0 items in it.

The Desktop (Mac OS 9) alias opens the Mac OS 9 Desktop Folder, containing several items that I put on the os 9 desktop myself.

Well, it seems to me that if there's nothing in it, you can toss it, and if it's needed then it will be recreated.

I have this Desktop folder too on my dual 1,25 Powermac. I did try to delete it but it appeared again and again and again... Now I just let it be there...

The folder changes it's name when you change your language settings. Interesting...

I don't have classic installed on that machine.... This is weird...

I've never had classic on my TiBook and this folder showed up... I tried to delete it using the Finder and I was not allowed (because it's a root level item). I have not tried in the terminal. From what skoggis says, I might as well just leave it... but it's very annoying to have a folder that has no purpose to it. :(

I just attempted to put something in it. It worked fine, however, it is NOT the desktop folder of the active user. Perhaphs this is the root user desktop folder? Even so, this doesn't explaine why it showed itself now, since root has been enabled on my system since I got it and this desktop folder was never there.

I deleted this folder yesterday via Terminal, and so far it has not re-appeared. We'll see if it sticks.
