Please do not download Earthlink TotalAccess2005 software
It has "serious errors" If you have already downloaded it..
Just uninstall it by following the readme file. and if needed put the old one in its place ..Earthlink TotalAccess2004

Re: serious errors
After downloading and using you may expereince loss of e-mail accounts under your mail application and then you will not be able to make a backup with your CD if you have one. not until you get rid of that program

Error says something like..
Start up disk is full..

So believe me it's not worth it.
(just in case for those tech people
Mac OS X version I was using was 10.2.8)

Thanks & I hope this helps.

Heh... as a rule, I never install any software that comes with my internet package. They tend to be compatible with versions of OS X that are ancient, and usually cause more problems than they're worth.

SBC Yahoo! DSL makes you think you must install their software in order to get your DSL working, but OS X already has everything built-in that you need to connect to any network or ISP. I find the software included with ISP packages is loaded with adware: the very thing the software claims to protect you from.

At any rate, sorry to hear about your loss and troubles with the software... chalk it up to learning experience, and send off an email to EarthLink telling them exactly what you think of the whole situation and quality of their software!

I also don't install software like that, I must prefer to let either OS X do its own work or I do things manually.

Thanks for your feedback. (both of you)

I had actually e-mailed them as soon as I cleared my system.

Just got an e-mail back from Customer Support at Earthlink and they pretty much said it's probably just my computer. not in those exact words. That everyone is happy who got it except me. well I hope so. So if I don't see anyone post here about a similar thing. I guess they are.

About actually needing the software
Well, yes I know I don't really need it.
Like you said the dialing and connecting is built in to our almost perfect operating system. but sometimes when connection configurations get messed up. I think I need it. I don't really use the software.

I'm sure their are ways around it. but yes it's all about learning.

Thanks & good luck to those happy people
(and I don't mean that in a bad way)

I just "love" ::evil:: those customer service techs who think they are helping you by saying it must be your machine. ;)

Earthlink doesn't stuff TotalAccess with Adware, and it does one of those new compression thingies to slightly speed up your dial-up.

But, I had problems connecting and eventually determined the cause to be TotalAccess 2004. I talked to Earthlink techs 4 times! and I had to figure it out myself.

I thought I'd check out 2005, but then again . . .

Hello again,
About errors I received on my MAC OS X version... with earthlink download

I'm pretty sure it was earthlink at the time but found out something new

..Error about "start up disk is full" maybe due to not enough storage space on hard drive
I was told at apple store recently when it happened again. the error..
"at least 1gig of open space is required for any cd burning etc."

Well, maybe they(earthlink) were right and it was my computer that was full? but they never figured out or mentioned.

hopefully this will help slightly.. problem maybe solved.. thanks to apple store lady.. (it's funny she acted like everybody knows that)

Thanks again,

malkaus
