This seems to be a real challenge. No answer could be found nowhere on the Internet or tutorials.
Have a PC running Window XP Pro, with an external 150GB hard drive. Have a home network set up with a router, and a PowerMac G5 with Mac OS X Tiger.
The computers see and talk to each other. The Mac can see and open files on my SharedDocs folder in my PC. It even shows the external HD, driver E:, in a list of possible files on the PC I want to open on my Mac. But if I try to access it, it says The alias "name of my pc" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found.
I made sure to set my PC to advanced file sharing configuration, to enable this disk to be shared by ALL users and computers, tried the same with a folder inside the disk, no luck.
Anything else on the C: drive I can just enable for sharing the same way I tried the external drive, and the Mac successfully opens it!
What could be going on? Are external hard drives impossible to share?
