I have a G4 (933 MHz) and I have a external HD 4.2GB SCSI that I put MacOS X 10.1.2 on and my primary is running MacOS X 10.1.4 . I wanted to experiment with xwindows with out messing up my main partition, but when in Ten on my main partition and I go to the startup selection it sees the OS on the SCSI but refuses to actually start.

pleas help - Thanks

verbose ?

I would do that via Open Firmware or do I start up pressing Apple-S at start up?

you will have to spell this out for me, I am very much the newbie, I do good to get to the terminal and pico.

sorry bout that...

i think it Apple+V
or it might be alt/option+V

the screen will display a bunch of text like in terminal instead of the gray background apple. You are probably getting a kernel panic.

Cabbage-
Thanks for the info...

Started with Apple+V and i got lots of text, everything appeared to load fine, and then I was into Ten on my regular partition...

I will try it again and see if I see anything that might give me a clue...

When in doubt - restart

;)

I get white text against a black background, short pause and a white screen and then everything goes to a standard boot on my primary partition for OS X...

Is that a good or a bad thing??
