External USB 2.0 DVD burner not working in Mac OS X 10.3.7

Trying to get a external USB 2.0 DVD burner (NEC ND-1100A) to work with a Mac mini, Mac OS X 10.3.7 installed. In System Profiler | USB bus, the drive shown as a DVD-ROM instead of DVD writer and Disc Burning: Not supported. I've tried different burner (LiteOn 411S), same problem. Is there a specific driver/extension I need to install to OS X to make the drive be recongnized as a burner?

Wow ... the PatchBurn works great. Is shown now "Disc Burning: Vendor Supported". The first two discs I tried to burn in Disk Utility were failed in the middle of the verifying process, didn't know what caused the process to hang though. Anyway, the third and fourth disc completed without any error (unchecked verify option). Looks like I can burn with success as long as I don't ask to do the verify part of the burning. Thanks for your help.
