Hello! Yesterday i was running the Program Update as i do maybe once a month.. I updated Quickt Time and 2 safety updates. After that i was told to restart the computer and so i did. When computer started up again the only thing on the Desktop was the Dock with several programs. I discovered that Finder is not running and it doesnt work to click at it the Finder icon at the Dock either :( .,..

Anyone that can give me some help about this? Please..

Try trashing this file;

com.apple.finder.plist

here;

user>library>Preferences

Restart

He might have trouble doing that if the Finder won't run...

You may have to boot into Single User mode and do it from there

Yah....But how do i boot in single user mode?is it safe for the files that i have?

Sure, no prob to work in the single user mode. Once you are there, also use this command: fsck -f (filesystem check)
To enter the single user mode hold apple+s while booting. Good luck

Ok..i did that... It repaired succesfully but no result=S....still the same thing when i logged out from Single user mode...

Or wait, why not simply add another user account. You won't need the finder for this. And then log into the new user account and see if the finder runs fine. This should be the easiest

Haha Sam, can't believe you forgot to mention that right away ;)
Also, assuming he's running 10.3, fsck doesn't really do anything anymore.

lol, my fav add, huh?

I'm running 10.2.8....ok....can you now tell me how to do those things? i mean deleting those files??how do i do when i am in single user mode...could'nt fine which commands i should use=S.... and is this safe for the files that i already have ? ( I tried to make another user but that didn't work..)

before you do this simply try adding a new user account. Go to System Preferences -> Accounts and add a new account. After that log out (apple+shit+q) and log into the new user account. Now, still that prob with the finder? If yes, deleting the plist file from the finder won't help.
After you did this and the finder is still messed, boot into the jaguar DVD and repair the disc, as Randman said.
