FireWire Cable for iPod

Hi.

I'm getting an iPod for myself (yeah, my first iPod), and I was wondering if I really need to buy a FireWire cable with it? I mean I already have a FireWire cable that came with my Sony mini-DV camera (sony calls it iLink, though). Will that cable connect to the iPod dock? Or do I have to buy one from Apple?

the connector on the end of the ipods firewire/usb2 slot is proprietry. it's long and very skinny, and so, no, your standard firewire cable won't work.

i'm not sure of this, but i think the new ipods will only support usb2, anyhow...

Yep -- check the specs on the new iPod you intend to purchase, as, like Major Burns said, the newer iPods only support syncing/charging over USB 2.0.
