Hello,

I know very little about external firewire HDs but I'm shopping for one now for my 700MHz iBook.

I'm looking at a Western Digital 80 GB HD:

...and an enclosure:

Would someone who knows anyting about this kind of thing let me know if this is all that I need? I don't want to spend the money then find out I got the wrong thing, or if I need anything else. Thank you!

Not sure if you had it in your initial post, but an important feature to consider is the speed of the firewire hard drive you want. If you need it for storage/back up, then 5400 rpm is fine. However, if you are producing music or doing anything intense that requires disk speed, then you will want to stick with the 7200rpm drives that are out there.
