I am using a Windows machine to check the forums today, and I feel wrong about it, please forgive me. I know that diversification is essential these days (hell, I have a degree in computers and didnt touch a mac for almost 5 years!), but after coming back into the light, using a Windows machine seems like such a hassle. Does anyone else feel this way? I would like to increase my knowledge of OS X and Mac programming, can anyone suggest a good starting point? I am eager to learn, just need a direction.
 
I hear ya...

I'm stuck on Windows all day...thankfully it's W2k at least. I don't hate Windows, but there aint no love either. I spend all day thinking about getting home and using the Mac. OS X is just relaxing and enjoyable. My brother and my wife both think it's weird that I come right home and sit down on the computer...but I really need the ease-of-use relief that I get from my Mac.
All that said...I did have a chance to use a really suped up XP Workstation this morning. It was pretty cool, but not the same. Now that I no longer do AutoCAD work here at work (I write documentation now) I have been seriously thinking about getting an iBook G4. I'll have my QS2002 at home for heavy work, but I'll have the iBook at work and whenever else I need it. It would be great to ditch the two W2K boxes on my desk and just enjoy a Mac all day long. I'd love to watch the rest of the office drool. Someday....someday.

Scary...very scary. You must do 2 hours of Mac worship to be absolved. :D

3 computers at the office, and all three are major headaches. 2 Compaqs with Win2KPro and a Dell Laptop with XP Pro. I think in the past two weeks all I've been able to do was backup, restore, and update those. Too many darn virus updates and security fixes to count. NOT FUN!

Actually just bought an old Sun Ultra 10 workstation to use as a server there...that'll be the only one which doesn't drive me nuts I guess (other than the iBook). The powers that be are slowly realizing about the 'dark side', and after having seen the light they're getting more open to the possible switch.
 
Yeah, doesn't XP suck. I can't believe how much less stable it is than w2k. After 6 years of being a admin on the windows side, i no longer work in the field and am eagerly looking forward to switching back to the mac world via a G4 ibook. There might be MUCH more software on the windows side, but none of it seems to work right.

I use Macs and PCs... and I don't feel guilty for that. It's like driving a Nissan and an Alfa Romeo. One is for work, the other is for fun. Lucky the one who has fun at work (I do).
 
ssshhhh... Don't bash Wintel/Amd around www.macosx.com! Mods don't like that! They actually love Wintels/Amds! :rolleyes:

And maybe they will erase this post... :eek:

But you aren't changing desktops, themes, updating patches/updates, playing games, creating the latest and greatest movie, etc with a car :rolleyes:

MANY people like to boast that computers are just tools but they, exactly at that moment, try HARD to play it "logical", "grown up", "righteous", etc. :eek:

It is CLEAR that one MUST be guilty for using Windows based solutions :p :D

Actually, the XP Pro one is the one which gives us the least amount of problems. Granted it's not used as much as the other two.

If VPC came out for the G5 I'd be in heaven. Get 2 DP 1.8s for general use (after release of new models), and the fastest DP for myself plus a nice PB to be used in the field.

So delsoljb32 at least you were here on this site so that should count towards your absolution.I don't think you should worry too much since alot of the folks here realize the difficulty of trying not to be swallowed by the" giant from Redmond".A recent article was quoted as saying the mac community is like a walled garden compared to the PC which is akin to the wild west.:D
