gimp in panther

newbie as i am in x11 i was wondering what applications i need to install in order to use gimp (i.e) in panther. i\ve heard about fink and , well other stuff, can anyone tell me what it takes to run (i.e.) gimp

fink and fink commander.
then use finkcommander to load and install gimp... and you're all done.
