Good way to backup entire HD?

Is there a good way to backup my entire HD?
I have seen great things written about carbon copy cloner, unfortunatelly I do not have a large enough external HD to fit a cloned copy of my powerbook's HD (70GB of data).

I have read mixed reviews of intego's backupX product so I am reluctant to buy.

Are there any products out there that can
1. Backup
2. "stuff"
3. Write to multiple DVDs

????

If yes which ones? if no, any solutions ? :0

Look into Dantz Retrospect. It can compress up to
half the original size, and it's quite nice about going
to multiple destination volumes.

Apple's own Backup software will back up to multiple DVDs, CDs, hard drives, etc. No compression, but it spans just peachy.

I am not sure how much room you have. But, you could use Disk Utility to make compressed disk images and, perhaps, get them on your external (maybe even a compressed disk image of your whole internal).

I have 20GB available on an external FW HD, and I also have DVD-Rs.
To backup 70GB of data it would take me 17 DVD-Rs (approx time: 20+ hours?)
I have backup (I have .Mac), but that is a lot of DVD-Rs and time. I was hoping for something with compression (50% compression or more would be awesome :D ).

I think in worst case scenario I will backup the most important things (documents, game saves, unbacked up installation files, etc), create a list of what is installed, and try my luck. If something goes wrong my documents are safe (but a pain in the arse to re install everything - that is why a backup with option to rewrite to HD is awesome).

I think my next gizmo will be an external 250GB HD :D
