hack to modify startup sound in jaguar?

i was wondering if there is a way to change the startup chime
with jaguar? on my iBook i changed the gray screen to the
sensor / eye from HAL 9000 (of 2001 fame), and was wondering
if i could change it to Good Morning Dave or something like that?

As I understand it, no. Each 'family' of Mac has had it's own startup chime. I can tell you when a 6100, Bondi iMac or TiBook starts up just by the sound. Kinda cool really.

Only option I can think of is to place a sound file in your login items.
 
Where is the sound located ? In the Flash with the boot ROM ?

If this is the case, it's quite dangerous to modify.
 
well, everyone used to think the boot image was in the bios, but it turned out to be not too hard to modify, maybe the sound is the same?
 
The startup sound you're referring to is actually integrated into the boot ROM and is not upgradable via flash or any other means.
 
Only way would be to copy the ROM, replace the sound, burn a new ROM and replace the old one. Maybe around $800... :p
