Headphone Jack Broken? (new macbook pro)

When I plug my headphones in on my brand new (2 days old) macbook pro, the sound is grainy, weak, and fades in and out.

What's up?
 
Unplug and USB devices and headphones from your Mac and then Reset Your PRAM to see if that helps. Plus make sure you are pushing the jack all the way into the headphone port.
 
I had a chance to try this with a couple headphones, and thankfully the problem is only with my Nokia phone headphones. Why is that? They're just like regular 3.5mm jack headphones, but with a mic... I mean, the Apple mic headphones work just fine, why wouldn't these?
 
Maybe the other ones are expecting a different level coming from the jack? That would be my guess.
 
Is that a Nokia headset with a single connector? or with one for output (headphones), and a second for input (the microphone). The MacBook Pro would not work with a single connector headset, such as that made for a cell phone.
