Help iphoto wont show anything

I had thousands of pictures and a handful of libraries. I had a system crash and did an archive and install to fix it. Then I bought ilife and now iphoto says 0 photos. It wont recognize the old library. I tried dragging a picture on it and it wont import it. I tried deleting the prefs with no luck. it wont take any pictures at all! Anyone else have this problem?
 
I did a search for iphoto prefs and trashed all of them. Whats really strange is I can take a picture from any location and it will import in just fine. But the pictures in my old library wont import in. I figured it might be a permissions issue so I gave full permisions to everything in my old photo library with no luck.

I can manualy search and open them in preview with no problems. The iphoto structure is so archaic I dont know what picture is he real picture or a thumb nail or what.
 
first of all: back-up your whole iphoto-folder.
then delete everything (everything!).
then install iphoto anew.
then drag your photos from the backup to the iphoto window (not the thumbs).
