help playing mpeg1 muxed in imovie 3

I have a mpeg muxed file that wont play sound in imovie3. Is there anything i can do to get the file to work in imovie with sound?
 
I don't think iMovie will use a muxed file... I'm assuming this file is from some sort of digital-camera-with-movie-feature, since most all digital video recorders these days don't do muxed audio/video.

Your best bet would be to try and find some sort of "de-muxing" software to split the file into a video file and a separate audio file.
