I'd like to upgrade to Panther, but without having to do a clean install. I have quite a few music programs that require plugins, and I don't want those deleted once I upgrade.

How can I do this?

Thanks
Dean

You don't have to do a clean install. The Panther install disk gives you the option to simply update an existing installation of OS X 10.2.x.

Thanks for the info. If I remember correctly, you have a choice between clean install and 2 others. Do you know which one it is?

Thanks again

Yes, it's the very top option I believe, which is "Upgrade." I think the other two options are "Archive and Install" and "Clean Installation."

I think the verbage says something to the effect of "Upgrade a previous installation of OS X."

You can boot from the Panther install CD and go up to the point where you select what type of installation you want (upgrade, clean, etc.) without actually changing the disk at all, so no damage will be done if you wanna check. You can always quit the installer at this point and go back to your regular install.

Archive and Install will put a new system on your drive without wiping your disk or touching your old system (except for moving it and changing the name).
