I had a couple of crashes in Word v.X today. At first, I thought it was one particular file, but now it crashes with every file. I was lucky, though: I have a second hard disk in my Mac which has a duplicate of my OS X partition, and when I startup into this drive, Word behaves normally. I tried replacing the Word preferences in the Home/Library/Microsoft folder - to no avail. Anyone got an idea what else could be the cause? It must be a file or preference that was screwed up yesterday (everything was normal when I shut down my computer). Which files and folders does Word write to other than the Prefs in Home/Library?
Yup, it was a font - amazing how unstable Word is when it has any problem there. I had accidentally removed a Postscript font out of the Library/Fonts folder, and Word choked every time it had to dislplay that particular font. Is this bad programming in OS X or in Word? In OS 9, Word would have just displayed some gibberish in Courier or so, now it's touchy like a diva... Thx for the suggestion.
