How do I run mutiple instances??

Back in the OS 9 days I was able to run multiple copies of AOL instant messanger AIM.
is this possible with OS X? Has anyone been able to do this?

Have you tried just duplicating the AIM folder and launching the copied AIM program?

What exactly happens? Does the second application just quit, or will it not launch at all?

Just a shot in the dark - maybe if you change the name of the AIM app? And perhaps launch the differently-named one first?

Or how about one copy of AIM, one of iChat? Maybe one of Fire?
