How secure is Keychain ?

Wondering exactly how secure Keychain is. What encryption does it use? How is data accessed? Who has what kind of permissions? If any of you has more info on that, I'd be happy to hear it :)

Keychain's main purpose is to store passwords in a central file (hence the name, keychain) The keychain is unlocked by default. You can Lock the keychain, so you always have to provide the Keychain master password when entering a password protected site, or other password use on your computer. How secure is it? Maybe someone else can answer that. What security level do you need? You can apply a separate unlocking password just for keychain.

Yepp, I'm aware of that. Well, I was wondering what encryption level (algorithm) keychain uses. Just wanted to know how easy it is for intruders to get at the stored data.
