how to send a fax?

I need to send out a fax .
I am using an ADSL modem.
In order to make my modem available to send a fax am I suppost to disconnect from the
internet service provider?

I have OS 10.4.8.
-opening the faxPDF tab and put the number into the To:...-
then next to the Modem tab: says, 'no fax selected', and i have nothing to choose from.
when i push the fax button an error comes up that says could not print because printer
could not be found.

any help?

Pending on your particular Mac, do you have an inbuilt Modem, the ADSL Modem is not ment for faxing. If you have an inbuilt Modem or have an external Modem you could plug in, us either of them. The phone line must go into the computer for internal Modem, or into the external Modem.

One thing I've found is if the fax number is not in the address book it doesn't send although it says it has. So just a Tip, put the number into the address book ;)

I realize now that I have no port for a phone line.
This means that I have to buy a USB modem right?
