How to watch .vid and wmv

I got the divx plugging but still not working.

For wmvs, you can download Windows Media Player and play them with that, or buy Flip4Mac's WMV decoder ($9.99) so you can play them with QuickTime.

For .vid, I'm not quite sure. I've never seen a .vid file. My advice is to try VLC, and maybe Windows Media Player (I assume you've already tried QuickTime Player, right?).

I've never seen a VID file either, but I'd recommend you try out VLC, Windows Media Player, and MPlayer.

so far mac are nice.
still missing open source tools like kate, gftp,

You can get Kate to run on Mac by selecting it through Fink. See http://fink.sourceforge.net/pdb/search.php?summary=kate

Ditto for gftp: http://fink.sourceforge.net/pdb/search.php?summary=gftp

Fink is a program that makes it easy to select Unix packages and install them. It is closely related to the Debian package management system.
