iBook Clamshell Hard Drive Noise

Are iBook clamshell models known for having a noisy hard drive? My girlfriend has an Indigo one and the best way I can describe the sound is a whine / whirl noise. There is no chattering and it does not sound like somethings falling apart inside, but it's just annoying. She bought it used (6 months old) a few years ago and it has always sounded like this, we just thought it was normal. Now with us having new, quiet PowerBook and iBook models we've noticed a big difference. The clamshell has to be sold and I just want to know if this is normal so I can honestly describe the condition.
