iBook- internet download problem

Hi. A minor problem I'm having with my iBook (G3, snow, 800mHz 640MB RAM) is the fact that when I try to download content off the internet, it appears on the desktop. I click on the icon, agree with the license terms, and then a window pops up saying "Invalid checksum", "Verification failure", or "No mountable file systems". I don't know what's causing it, but some assistance with the problem may clear it up.
