Have a imac G4 here and the DVD writer has gone faulty. Have tested the drive on a PC and the same fault is present it wont see any disks.Did replace it with another used Pioneer but found it to be faulty as it sees disks but has problems copying the data from the disk the data just does not verify correctly. So am looking to buy brand new DVD.But size of DVD needs to be small.

What I would like to know,am I right in thinking the imac will only reconize a DVD drive if its a Pioneer?

As the DVD in the machine was a 110BD was looking at getting pioneer 111.Has anyone put one of these in the Dome type imac.(Does this model fit?)or if you have used a different make what drive have you fitted into your dome imac g4 ?

Thanks for any tips.

Many iMac 15 inch flat panel and iMac 17 inch flat panel (dome ?) models shipped with Sony DW-U10A disc drives.

DW-U10A is the OEM version of the Sony DRU-500A.

have you gone to macsales.com yet? they sell superdrive upgrades for just about every mac that can handle them, and they would be direct replacements too. garinteed to fit and work with apple's apps.

Thanks for the suggestion of going to macsales.com. As they are selling Pioneer DVR-111D for G4 imac.So have good chance of getting drive that will fit now.

Wont be getting it from macsales.com as im in the UK.
