Imac screen dark on startup!

Hello I am new to this site and I have a problem! My imac G4 flat panel is ill! When i turn the power button on i get the normal chime and the white light at the bottom is there but the screen is black. I changed the battery but that has not worked, and when I do manage to get the display on by pressing Control/Option/P/R the date and time are wrong. What is wrong with it? :(
 
The command/option/p/r zaps or clears the 'PRAM' (perimeter RAM) which stores settings such as date, time, etc. That explains why this is incorrect.

As for the blank screen, have you in your possession the original disks for the imac. If so there should be an Apple Hardware test CD, you could try running that.
 
Oh......Another thing you could try is running the Disk Utility program which is located in Applications/Utilities folder, select your hard disk and click on repair disk permissions.
