I have a G3 imac with 500mhz (according to OS 9.2.2) and 192 MB of ram. I updated the firmware to 4.1.19 (the latest). When i insert the panther CD it panics during boot of the installation CD with the following message:
(kernel panic(0)) could not find driver for "powermac(4,1)"
i tried removing the ram but with 128 MB. it still doesn't work. Switched banks as well. OSX 10.1 works like a dream. I am considering using the 512 MB i have in an other computer as last option, but the memory in the computer should be factory memory so fine. (or at least part of it, And I can not imagine the computer shipping with 64 MB). The imac color is blue. Hardware testing with the OS9 cd does not give errors. I have no hardware attached except for the keyboard and mouse.
The only thing that is possible is that the cd damaged, but it looks fine.
