iMovie HD 6 Editing Question

Hi,

I am new to iMovie (and home video editing in general) and I need to know
how I can set a pause at the end of a clip before the transition to the next clip
begins. Basically, I have a cross dissolve transition between 2 clips and I want to set a pause on the last frame of the first clip (e.g. of my baby son smiling), then after the pause the transition between the 2 clips will continue like normal. Think of it as a snapshot being taken of the last frame and pausing a few seconds before the video continues. I've tried adjusting the settings on the transistion between the clips but it doesn't have the effect I want. Hopefully someone can help me. I'm sure it is something quite simple if there is a way.

Regards,
Tim

First, get the playhead at the clip you want to pause (the end of the first clip).

Then, press Edit -> Create still frame or shift-apple-s.

You now have a still frame in your clips box. You can use this to "extend" the smile, and apply the transition over it.

You can adjust the length of the still clip by copying it, or splitting it (apple-t).

It should look like this when you're done:

(and yes, I did have too much fun with images)
