Installation of phpBB on MacOS X Client - Help

Dear All,

Before someone complains, I have done a search on this forum for a solution to my problem, and the search engine turned up no results.

I would be grateful if someone can post a nice simple to follow guide to my problem. Here's the background:

I would like to run a Forum just like this one on my works machine, and as phpBB is open source and free, I thought that I would check it out and play with it. Anyway, after reading the system requirements, I installed the PHP and MySQL components as explained in the "How To" section of this website.

PHP installed without a problem. MySQL installed with hugh problems, but I think that I got it to work in the end. To be honest, I don't know if it is working or not. I type the last command as explained on the Forum, "mysql test", and the terminal window just sits there. Is that normal? I 'break' out of whatever it was doing by pressing Control-Z and I get a list of jobs that it was doing. Again, is this normal? I am totally new to this, and I am learning as I'm going along.

In my web browser, I type "http://localhost/phpbb2/" and I get an index list of contents of that directory. Somehow, "index.php" would not load be default. Any suggestion?

Once I have the "install.php" page up, I got all confused and I need some help in a big way, especially with the 'Database Configuration'. The 'Read Me' file that came with the software was not very helpful.

I have enclosed a screenshot of the installation of phpBB and I was wondering if someone can tell me what to put in the fields for Database Configuration. Please explain like I don't know anything. (Which I don't)

I know this message is long, but it can help me and others in the same situation. Maybe, some expert out there can write a document that explains this, "Installing phpBB for Dummies"

Thanks for your time and effort.
