Installing OS X on a FireWire HD... Is it safe?

I am getting Sick and Tired of running OS 9 from this FireWire HD all because my internal HD had identity problems. I want to get back into OS X. But I need to know if there are any problems I might have?

It's a LaCie 60GB FireWire HD. I'm running from OS 9 right now. I CAN'T STAND ALL THE FREEZES ANYMORE! I MUST get back to X!
 
Yes, you can install OS X on a FireWire drive. You should have no problems at all. You can boot up from FireWire drives, contrary to USB drives, so installing an operating system on it poses no problem.
 
I routinely boot OS X up from several external FireWire drives without problems (they even appear in the special "'option' at startup" boot-prompt). Slick.
