We have an iMac running 10.5 and I have set it up to be an AFP server for our company. It usually works fine and I know I set it up correctly. However, every now and then when someone with one of our 10.5 or 10.6 MacBooks or MacBook Pros attempt to connect to it they receive the dreaded "Connect Failed" error message. This can usually be addressed by restarting the iMac but if you are connecting remotely and no one is in the office this cannot be done and can be rather frustrating (as you have to wait until someone can do so). Because this is intermittent I am fairly confident it has nothing to do with my initial setup of the iMac AFP service but I cannot find anything on the internet so far that explains why this would happen and how to address it. Is this a common problem? I appreciate any help.
