Ipod Linux Installation Error

Hey,

I have a 3rd generation 15GB iPod and when I try to install ipodlinux on it, it tells me,

"An error occurred while installing linux: Could not extract OS portion of firmware."

Not much I can really do about that, so I tried to see if there was an update for the software...

"An error occurred while checking for updates: "


Any help? Is this a common problem? I would have gone to their forums but they're down.
