Itunes tracks skipping

Hello, the problem I have is my itunes is skipping randomly on the tracks in my library. It started a few days ago, everything was fine before that on all the macs/ mac kit I use on a day to day basis (home/ work & my ipod).

At Work: Firstly, my ipod (30GB Classic) started playing up skipping tracks while i was at work. It was plugged in to the work mac itunes (v8.2.1) which up to that point was working fine, then the work itunes started to skip. The Mac at work is running 10.5.7

I removed the ipod, switched it off and started again. Still skipping, I thought it might be the itunes but that was fine when disconnected from the ipod. I then connected the ipod to the work mac again & now it would'nt mount in itunes but did so on the desk top, so took it home that evening.

At home: I copied the contents/tracks of my ipod to a separate folder, then fired up itunes (v9) on the home mac (imac/20 inch PPC). As I had wiped the mac a few days eariler itunes was totally clean apart from the original tracks that i had built up over the years, the tracks on my ipod are different as it is mainly used at work.

I plugged in the ipod, it was recognised by itunes and the tracks played for a bit 30secs, then started to play & skip track to track. It got through Nirvana's Nevermind album in 60 seconds

So i restored factory settings and wiped it, let it restart & mount on in itunes & desktop. I tried the original tracks in itunes, but still skipping, then tried with the ipod disconnected, still skipping.

Created a new library, imported tracks, not all imported & still skipping.

Removed prefs as suggested in your forums

Restarted, ipod disconnected, still skipping.

Binned itunes, downloaded new itunes, still skipping.

Contemplated totally wiping mac again

Emailed you guys. Hope you can help.

Thanks
