Kernel Panic with Belkin USB Pocket Hub?

I have an iMac DV SE 400, 384 MB RAM, running MacOS 10.1.2. Pro Keyboard, Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse, Maxtor 40GB Firewire Drive, QPS CD-RW Firewire Drive, Belkin USB Pocket Hub with HP 960Cse printer, Palm Connect USB/Palm 5 Cradle, Canon Canoscan and an Iomega Zip 250 connected to Hub.

I HotSynced my Palm while in OS 9.1 (with the USB Hub disabled -- the Palm Connect USB was directly connected to iMac). I then restarting in OS 10.1 and tried to Hotsync using the same configuration. No luck. I shut down and plugged the Belkin Hub back in and then plugged the Palm Connect USB into the Hub, along with the other peripherals mentioned above. Upon startup I received the following Kernel Panic:

I also received the following message while running fsck following the Kernel Panic:
IOUSBMassStorageClass: Message=e0000010 USB: 152.317: (Reset) USB [0x168fa00] Generic Hub @ 2 (0x18100000)

Aside from zapping the PRAM (which I did before running fsck), any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. This seems to happen everytime I try to HotSync while using the Belkin Hub in OS X. Thanks.

and now you have learned a valuable lesson - Belkin sucks. if there is ever any alternative to a belkin product, buy it regardless of cost. better to have paid more for something that actually works.

my experience with them - got one of their scsi adaptors when i first got my imac (os9). I wanted to still use my old peripherals after all. problem was that anytime i did file transfers it would freeze. i called belkin and their answer "we got your icon to show up. that's all we promise". like i paid $80 to see an icon:rolleyes:

i don't think belkin is evil - just stupid.:(

Thanks for the reply, Ed. I was just about to log on to find out if there are any USB Hubs out there that don't present a problem with OS X. Any ideas?

i am sure there are others but i will say i have had no problem with my entrega with power supply. having a self powered hub is actually pretty important - one of the great things about a self power is you can plug it into the empty keyboard slot and free up your main plugs for things like cdrws that need a very direct connection sometimes.:)

I have an unpowered hub i made myself out of my old Pro Keyboard, after i spilled an entire bottle of sprite into it.... i washed it out and all but it was completely blown, so i cracked it open and ripped out the usb ports and circuitry, and then made a makeshift body out of packing peanuts and duct tape. Anyway, that's always worked fine ;) ;)
