Long delay when printing mail messages

I am having this same problem on two computers.
They are now running Lion, but I had this same problem with Snow Leopard.

In Mail, I am trying to print a mail message. I select print, but there is a 1-2 minute delay before the print dialog comes up. No spinning pinwheel.

This problem only happens with specific mail messages.
Not with plain text.
Not with HTML formatted mail from several news services.

It only seems to happen with HTML messages that come from WellsFargo. They send me my ATM receipts in email. They have the Wells Fargo log and then the details of my transaction. I disabled the "load images" in mail on Snow Leopard and then, the messages printed quickly. I don't see that option in Lion, but in any case, when the messages load their images, I see this long delay if I choose to print them.

My guess is that the delay is required for the linked images in the messages to download for printing. But, why on Earth do you insist on wasting your paper and ink/toner to print SPAM--probably malicious SPAM, at that?
