Lost Preview

Hi

Newbie here, so please excuse me if this has been posted before.

I have just started up my Macbook pro and found that i have a ? over the preview icon in my dock

When i click on it, it does nothing.

Any way i can restore this

That would likely only happen if Preview was moved to another volume. Find Preview on your Mac, ensure it's in the main Applications folder where it belongs, and drag it back to the Dock if you prefer to keep it there. Drag the question mark out of the Dock as it serves no purpose.
 
The only other possibility is that in incidentally got trashed and emptied. You'll need to reinstall it from your system install/restore disc. You can use Pacifist to selective install Preview. Then be sure to download from Apple and reinstall the latest combo update for your main version of Mac OS X.
 
You can use Pacifist to extract the Preview app from your OS X DVD and reinstall it.

Interestingly the description on MacUpdate specifically mentions Preview.app
