MacBook harddrive upgrades?

I actually have the 5400 rpm 500 not the 7200 rpm, though i do get a speedboost from all the VM space I think.

Be aware that a 7200 rpm drive will consume more power. Also be aware that aftermarket drives apparently do not get parked by the tilt sensor.

And 7200rpm drives generally whine. I find the sound very disturbing. Not worth the small speed increase imho.

Not to mention slightly decreased battery life as well.

For a Mac mini, sure -- a 7,200 rpm drive is a no-brainer... but for a laptop, I'm with Fryke... 5,400 rpm is plenty for travel use, and the perceived speed boost, while noticeable, is negligible.

I'd recommend a large hard drive over a fast one in a laptop computer.

Well, this is my main computer, it's the most powerful too. How much of a 'whine' does a 7200rpm drive kick out?

Maybe you guys have better ears that me.. I got the Hitachi 320GB 7200 RPM drive in my new MBP and I cant hear the thing...
