hey there - i'm hoping someone can help me out here... the trackpad went bad on my 1st gen macbook pro 17 2.14mhz - i found a used one for a pretty reasonable price ($40) and swapped the topcases myself. i also pulled my old keyboard out of my previous topcase and transferred it into the new one. everything worked beautifully but now both fans are spinning at approx 4000rpm and will not slow down. this holds true no matter what account i am using or whether i have started up with 'everything off' (shift key after startup). i can increase the speed using smcFanControl but cannot bring it down below 4000rpm (approx). upon inspection i noticed that the top case i purchased had a different circuitboard set up under the trackpad - the serial # is from a later model - but could this be effecting my fan speeds?? how? what else could i have done wrong here? any ideas? i'm really enjoying having a working trackpad again but this fan noise is too distracting. plus it can't be good for battery life or fan life...
help anyone?
