Making a Spotlight hotkey to replace Quicksilver

Why use Quicksilver when Spotlight is better? Anyway I can bind the control key so that it'll open up the spotlight search bar?

You mean just the command key? Or mean, redefine it to whatever you want? The Keyboard Shortcuts options (in Keyboard/Mouse preference pane) allows you to redefine the shortcut key combo you want to use, but it won't allow you to assign simply the command key for a trigger -- it's gotta be a combination of modifier keys and regular keys.

Maybe something like Quickeys or something could do that...
