Beige G3, 410 meg ram, Panter 3.3.5, Microtek 4800 scanner, Scanwizard 5.v716 software. Loads but when click on scan, get errer code -143. No referance to this code at Apple. What is it and how do you fix it?
 
That error code -147 would not be an Apple error, it would likely be a Scanwizard error, and info from Microtek may help. According to THIS PAGE at the MicroTek support site, the version of ScanWizard you have may not support your model 4800, at least with Panther. The 4800 is not mentioned in data for the version 5.716
I wonder if your XPostFacto software could be an issue, too.
