Theres a valuable lesson to be gleaned from Apples reluctance here, which goes to the difference between Product marketing and Technology marketing terms Ive borrowed from a former Apple employee who explained how the company is brilliant at one, but rubbish at the other.
Very interesting read, especially alongside this article (referenced in the above article) and the recent ipod-firewire fiasco.
