I know this has probably been posted before but....

i'm trying to network my mac os x and my wife's windows 98 computer using the DLink ethernet router....

she also needs to be able to access the printer that is connected to my computer and I wanted to create a folder we're we could place files in... and each one of us be able to read and write to them....

how do i go about doing this?

There are a lot of posts about this. You should search...
Anyway, just a quick instruction:
first make sure the two comps are connected and ping works. For ping test you just open a terminal and type:
ping other_computers_ip
If this works, than it's just about the software to manage your filesharing. Go to system preferences and turn on filesharing and windowssharing. Share a folder under win98 with rightclick and share...
You can connect to the windows machine using apple+k in the finder and type: smb://computername.
About printersharing:
Doesn't your DLink routher have a printserver?
