One trash too many

Is it possible to un-erase a trashed item without specific software in OSX? Got a little over zealous with my housekeeping and cleaned out trash with a file I'd rather keep.
 
Unfortunately not, once you choose empty trash it's gone.

You may be able to get it back using 3rd-party software, but I'm not sure of what's available for Mac OS X.
