open audio cd with finder?

hello-

as you can see i'm new here so i hope i'm not laughably moronic here, but:

i'm in os 10.2.6.
a while ago i remember putting audio cd's in my powerbook and they would appear on the desktop, where i could open them with finder and pull aiff files right out.

now, since i must have made some preference change and not remembered it, only itunes opens, and nothing appears on the desktop.

how can i get the cd to appear as if it's like a removable drive again?

click on the desktop

finder > Preferences > "show these items on the desktop" > cd's etc should be checked

Also, open System Preferences, click on the "CDs & DVDs" icon, and then set "When you insert a music CD" to ignore -- that way, iTunes won't automatically open when you put in a music CD.
