OS X Resolution

Im running my monitor on the resolution 1024 x 768, 75 hz it is a 21 inch . This is really the only resolution that will work without the screen going crazy. I don't like the resolution because everything is so big. Is there an application out there or any way to give more desktop space?

Try boosting up your refresh rate to like 85 and then trying other resolutions. A low refresh rate on a big monitor can cause it to go goofy. I run 1024x768 at 85 Hz on my 17 inch monitor.
 
I use OS X Server, so i'm not sure if it is the same...but you might need to deselect "Show modes recommended by display". You'd also probably want to choose the highest refresh rate avaliable for whichever resolution you use (be sure to change the refresh rate after you change the resolution).
