OSX and AOL 5.0 in classic

Well, I finally got OSX to install on my beige G3 after several attempts! I had to reconfig the orginial HD and then flash the ROM, from the firmware update at Apple. That solved the problem with getting the "can't open, ...card" which was referring to my SCSI card I discovered, it was writing the number out on the screen during reboot and then jumping back to 9.1. Ok, so I like it so far. I can see my other Mac, 8500 etherd'.

NOW... my question is, when I boot into 9, I can sign on AOL 5.0 with no problem, that's how I am doing this now, but when I boot to OSX, it fires up classic and yet, it tells me that it cannot detect my modem. I have tried several things, I have a Best Data 56K out of the modem port and when I first booted in OSX it saw the modem, but after I installed the updater, it doesn't. How do I get OSX to let me sign on to AOL 5.0? Am I missing something here? I would like to be able to sign on and get any updates for OSX until I can get Jaguar. Any suggestions?

Well, I downloaded AOL 10.1 for OSX. I cannot after 2 hours get it to log on. I have no problem logging into aol 5.0 in 9.1, but I get so far with 10.1 aol and then get the message that modem is not accepting commands. I want to know if there is a step by step way of taking a 56k modem and configuring OSX to log on AOL. Internet Connection keeps trying to connect even when I disconnect and I feel like a dog chasing my tail. I have tried many different things, including TCP/IP and that doesn't work. What am I missing?

Well, assuming AOL is the only way you can connect to the internet, do this:

1) Open AOL, and click the "Setup" button of the "Signon" screen

2) Select the option called "Add a new AOL access phone number" and click next. Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions. hope this helps
